BEE ZEE

WOW! Today was totally busy. I did not get to sit on my sorry ass until... uhm... 10:00. Didn't I just say that I need to start making time to breathe? All aboard the #FAIL train, round two!

Here's what I ate! I had a lot of frankenfoods today! They are comforting and easy to pack. I haz no shame.

I ate these Apple Cinnamon Protein Mini Muffins before noon. They were supposed to be my pre-workout meal (at 4:00PM).

and more Chocolate (not so) Salty Balls.

That pic is DISGUSTING! No recipe for these... because you don't want it. Really. Edible. That's about it.

I went to CVS at lunch to roll my Extra Care Bucks. Lucky for me Arizona Diet Green Tea w/ Ginseng AND their Pure Protein Chocolate Peanut Butter bars were on sale. I LOVE Pure Protein bars. They are tasty, under 200 cals, AND low in sugars! Sugar alcohols don't count. :P

**insert jumbled mess of a day here**

Workout, done!
Extra cardio, done!

**insert jumbled mess of an evening here**

It's all behind me. Sometimes work is stressful, and while nothing bad or wrong happened, I'd rather not think about it.

For dinner (PWO) I had some dry rub bbq chicken (on the Foreman), chipotle mashed potatoes, AND broiled green beans... cooked a little too long, but that's the way I like'em!

**more work errands... more mess**

I am not gonna lie. The taters were a box mix from Aldi. I suspect wheat in those bad boys as my tummy is feeling a bit raw right now -- kinda like I gently rubbed my insides with a not-too-coarse piece of sandpaper.

My nightcap: Dymatize Elite Whey in Vanilla, 1/4t xanthan gum, a generous amount of Saigon cinnamon, and two heaping tablespoons of Splenda, blended with ice and water into this frothy, creamy, concoction.

It is quite possible that my unhappy stomach is due to the amount of protein powder I ingested today and not wheat that may or may not be in my mashed tater mix. The food was all tasty, though! No regrets! I'll just try to be more mindful next time.

See y'all tomorrow!! I'm really excited about tomorrow's food!! YAY!

A Goal Without a Plan is Just a Wish

My goal is to compete. However, I do not want to just waltz up on that stage, unprepared in heels and a sparkling bikini. I want to bring a better package this time around.

I’m sure you’ve heard the famous quote, "A goal without a plan is just a wish." This afternoon I mapped out my plan. I don’t want to be lost, spinning my wheels, with no direction. I want to know where I am going.

I spent some time looking through old progress pics. It’s funny what you will find. Certain things hit me. When I was doing plyometrics two times a week, my ass was bubblier. Hmmm… wonder why I quit? I actually LIKE doing plyos!

There were also pictures of me with less muscle and more fat, yet I still had a teeeeeny TEENY bit of ab definition. This was back when I actually worked my abs directly… and often. I clearly remember why I quit that! I felt like my waist was getting thick. Of course, that was just because of the extra fat around my midsection

So, I mapped out my plan… week by week, day by day, until I had two months worth of cardio, plyo, and ab workouts scheduled. I realize that planning 8 weeks in advance is a bit excessive, but I was on a roll! :D Plans can change, and I’m okay with that. Now I’m super excited! I can’t wait to start crossing off these workouts, one at a time!

A goal without a plan is just a wish. — Antoine de Saint-Exupery

Junior Nationals will be here in a flash. EEP! I hope I can get in the cardio groove sooner than later! I am excited, scared, and totally not ready to start dieting and cardio-ing. BOO HISS!

I can't wait to see my sistah from anotha mistah again, though! YIPEE!!

In other news, the shit has hit the fan in la casa de Sammons. We are without internet, one of the cars is without heat, along with a hodgepodge of other mishaps. Thankfully, all are minor, and all will be back to normal in a week.

Back to cardio...

Man, how I despise each boring second! I think I have bipolar cardio disorder. ;) I go through spurts of LOVING it, loving the alone time, the quietness... and then there are times like right now where I would rather saw off my pinky toe with a butter knife than endure a single minute of it. I've done 12 minutes this week... TOTAL. Monday I ran 1/2 a mile on the treadmill. Wednesday I ran over my lunch period. I only had time for a mile, and that took a whopping 7 minutes. However, I must say, that I did enjoy my mile run around the track. It's hard to run when a treadmill is keeping your pace, but I found it quite easy to zone out to some Radiohead while running lap after lap after lap at our gym's indoor track. It's a small track... 14 laps is a mile. Since that mini-session wasn't so bad, I am going to strike a deal with myself, right now. I am going to do one measly mile every time I step foot in that darn gym. It's just seven minutes. It isn't torture. And if I go to the gym four times in a week, that makes almost 30 minutes of cardio... almost. How sad and pathetic am I? LOL!

Do you all have a workout or things you MUST do but severely dislike? Me? Aside from cardio, I really dislike fixing my hair, including blow-drying it. I usually don't. Ha!

Also, thanks for all of your input on the bathroom sconce!

I was in the minority and preferred this one:

And you all unanimously preferred this one:

That eases my mind a bit because your choice is the more affordable of the two.

I still really like the first one, though, so I haven't ordered either. I will make my decision by the end of the week! I gotta get this bathroom D-U-N, DUN!

Happy Thursday Bloggerfam, and I hope you are staying warm!!

I'm blushing!!

Good evening folks! I've been doing kitchen reno crap all night. I was wrong when I said I was spent earlier. Now I am supah dupah spent!

Anyways, I thought you all might want to read my interview on a great blog which promotes female athletes, bodybuilders, figure athletes, bikini competitors, MMA fighters, etc. Jason works really hard to make this blog what it is. Hop on over there and check it out. :) Pay no mind to my typos in my answers. Proofread FAIL! LOL!

http://promotingwomen.blogspot.com/2010/01/genie-sammons-interview.html

Seriously, this interview is just as bad as watching yourself on tape. I blush and cringe every time I read it. LOL!

Thank You!

Thank you all for your comments and views regarding the Arnold. You pretty much confirmed what I was feeling. While I was really looking forward to it, I knew that I needed time to build to bring a better package to the national stage. When you aren't completely content with a decision you've made, it really helps to hear that others have very similar opinions. So, thank you for that, and thank you for your support.

Now where's that national schedule?! :)

P.S. I'm selling a suit on Diva. It's new, but I didn't get to wear it. I can't fill it out... at all. LOL!

If you follow my blog, and you are interested, make me an offer. :) I'm trying to raise money to travel to compete next year. THANKS GUYS! xoxo!

A Penny for Your Thoughts

Guys. I don't know what I'm doing.

FACT: National Qualifications are only good until the end of the following calendar year. It used to be two years.

I have been very excited about the possibility of competing at the Arnold Amateur... just to say I did it. The Arnolds are in March, if ya didn't already know.

PROBLEM: That leaves very little time to build, and I feel like I lost quite a bit of muscle when I dropped the 25 pounds during my last round of dieting. It happens.

I do want to compete at the National level while I have the opportunity. What if this chance never happens again? I would like to be competitive. In order to do so, I think I would need more muscle... would definitely need more of a backside.

Do I push aside my desire to compete at the Arnold Amateur to bring a better package at the National level?

What would my Bloggerfam do? I'm on the fence. Actually, I'm leaning in a direction that will remain secret for now. I want to hear what you all think.

ZOOOOOM!

This week has flown by! I'm tying up some loose ends here at work and getting ready to hit the road to meet Becca, Jes, and Tasha!! How excited am I?!! WEEEEee!! Comp? Pfffffft! It's girl time! I haven't had a girls weekend in... ever... seriously, maybe 10 years. LOL!

One day out and three pounds down from last show. I'm at 111.8. YIKES!

Have a fantastic weekend you all!!! I will have more time to get back to blogging once all this craziness dies down!

XOXO!

Wordless Wednesday - 1st Place Open Class C!

I'm Shrinking!!!

AHhhhhh! I woke up at a measley 114.6 this morning. The boss is trying to feed me back up, so we are not sticking to the original plan. Honestly, the little extra bit of food makes me nervous... but he knows his shit, so I shall follow along.

I'm SO EXCITED! I'm ready to go!! Prejudging starts at 11:00. Boy oh boy, and I looking forward to the food tomorrow... steak, white rice... YES!!

Happy Friday all, and have a wonderful weekend!!

I know this is a ridiculously short and pointless post, but I just wanted to pop in and say hi!

Stiff!

Woo! I am stiff this morning. I decided to do stiff legged deadlifts for my last legs session on Monday. This chick is still feeling the stiffness -- I didn't even go hard or heavy. I hit some poses to send to my coach, and woah, it was tough. I have been having some issues with my back pose. I need to practice, but, hehe, I keep putting it aside. Oopsy. I hope it miraculously 'clicks' on stage.

And, I got a haircut last night. I am not picky. I just asked that it stay below the bra strap. Well, it's a good inch or so above... she easily removed over a foot of hair. My hair was down to my bum. Oh well. It's just hair. It'll grow out.

Sneak peak!

I guess I will pack tonight. I must make a list. Also, my room has no fridge or microwave... and it is $10 per day per appliance if I want it. I'm thinking I can go without. ALL of my perishables are frozen in a cooler in my freezer at the moment.

Food and makeup is packed, and that is the hard part. As long as I remember my tanner, heels, and suit, I can wing everything else, right? LOL. I'm working a full day Friday, hitting the gym, going home, then making the 3 hour trip. I wonder if I'm being a little too laid back about this process?

Oh, and I added more crystals to my arse this morning. No pic yet!

WOO!

How Many Days Out?

Peak week, peak week! WOOO HOOO DAWGGY! (don't know how to spell that... )

I feel like I have a LOT to do. Today I finally got around to booking the hotel room. We aren't staying at the host hotel. I did not see the point when the host hotel was still 2 miles away from the venue. Also, I thought about how pooped I was after pre-judging last time... I mean POOPED... so I booked two nights on Hotwire for less than what I would have paid for one night at the host hotel. SCORE! Now I can nap before the night show. AND, I'm such a child, I want to go swimming when we get there Friday night. They have an indoor pool and hot tub that is open until midnight. I wonder how that would affect the tanner I put on Saturday?!

Tonight I will hit get a hair cut (y'all, I look like a bum. It's ratty!), hit some calves, make some muffins (maybe), packpackpack, I don't know what else. My brain, although mush, is going a mile a minute. Some moments I am completely docile and unenthusiastic about the weekend ahead... other times, like this very moment, my brain is going a mile a minute... and I'm NERVOUS at this very second, but this too shall pass.

WOOO HOOO!!

Okay, totally random post. I hope everyone is having an awesomely fabulous Tuesday!

P.S. I am still congested.

Ain't nothing gonna break my stride

Ain't nothing gonna break my stride
Nobody gonna slow me down, oh no
I got to keep on moving

I have been O. U. T. out! Sick as a dawg! The last few days I have been a bloated, tired, freezing, snotty, icky mess. I called in sick today, am feeling MUCH better, but still not near 100%. I sound like crap... talking is kinda fun, because I don't sound like myself. LOL!

The bloat that comes with sickness is the worst. I have been feeling so down about being ready. Thankfully, I woke up to a mini-drop. I'm still not at my lowest for this prep, but knowing that things are going back in the right direction really helps mentally.

TWO WEEKS OUT! Focus is incredibly high! I am hoping I can get down to 117 by week's end. That would be a perfect way to start PEAK WEEK! AHHHHH!

Terrific Tuesday!

Hey party people!! I haven't check in in a while, so I a thought the least I could do was send you an update...

Last week was awful, just awful. I felt like I did all the right things, but instead of the scale rewarding me, it creeped up in the opposite direction. So, now I am rewarded with less food or more cardio. LOL! I'm on the fence as to which one I want to do.

Labor Day weekend was just okay. Sunday we went to a cookout/reunion at the in-laws. I brought my meals, and surprisingly, was not even tempted by the goodies they had! WOO HOO! Go me! Monday, however, I couldn't keep anything down. I think I ate something bad? Typical of me. I was eating on the same sweet potato for a week -- how sad is that?! LOL!

Anyways, that's my mini recap! I have a ton of stuff to catch up on here in the office. Later today I will probably check back in to add some placeholders for my "tabs" up at the top. :)

It's a new and SHORT week! Make today a TERRIFIC TUESDAY! I'm ready to make the scale my bitch again! :o)

LESS THAN 7 Weeks out from my first show! YIKES!

This is how I roll...

I heart my Planner... prep style

It looks innocent enough, right?

Notice the tabs... maybe it isn't normal...

Yes, it's beat up. This planner is probably 5 years old. I'm too cheap for a new one. LOL!

It's official folks. I am a certifiable dork.

If at first you don't succeed

Try, try again!

This week has been mentally (and physically!) rough for me! It was bound to happen sooner or later, and I will just be thankful that it happened now, while I'm still slightly ahead. Do you ever have those days/weeks when you just want to eat everything in sight? This has been my week. Monday, ravenous. Tuesday, more ravenous. Wednesday (yesterday), I caved. My mental game slipped, and I succumbed to the almighty powers of the dry roasted almond. :o) It all started innocently enough. I scurried to the grocery store during lunch to pick up necessities: nuts and wraps for the hubby, romaine and cucumbers for me. I'm a mathemagician when it comes to subbing foods in and out of my meal plan, so I ate some almonds, as I counted them, so that I could plug in x and subtract y. I was still hungry. When I got home it was dinner time and I found my grubby little fingers in the almond jar again. Damn crack almonds. It was dinner time, and there was no way I could "fix" the numbers this time. I made my salad, and didn't weigh my lettuce, cukes, or salsa... weighed my chicken, though... I don't know what the logic there was! LOL! Later in the evening, still famished and feeling like the day was screwed, I had an extra scoop of protein powder.

Today, I am feeling the effects of eater's remorse! LOL! I totally made this term up... you have heard of buyer's remorse, right? Anyways, I had to come clean, to my coach, to you guys, and I HAVE to make today better. I'm having a bit of a time digging myself out of this mental hole. I also did not want to make this blog seem like all sunshine and rainbows, because, quite frankly, contest prep can't always be perfectly smooth. I can't really pinpoint why I was so stinking hungry this week. There are just too many factors. The good news is, I am NOT hungry today.

Here are my potential causes:
1. Stress - Wednesdays are always a high stress and high hunger day for me. Work is a bear on Wednesdays.
2. Hormonal - May be a little early for that, but the cravings and hunger felt awfully similar to PMS!
3. Fake sugar - The correlation between my increased no calorie sweetener intake and hunger levels is a little too uncanny to dismiss.
4. My body is simply mad at me for losing weight. LOL!

What am I gonna do about it? Fight tooth and nail to get back on track 110% today.

Alright folks. That's my bah humbug post of the day. It's time to fake it until I make it. Make today count!! :)

Wordless Wednesday - 9.5 Weeks Out

9.5 Weeks Out NPC Bluegrass 2009

9.5 Weeks out!

126.2 - Waiting for my carb up

I am looking forward to my carbs tomorrow. Boy oh boy! I'm gonna eats me a ton of sweet potatoes... I may even have them for every meal! LOL!

As you can see, my sticky point wasn't so sticky. Usually getting below 128 is pure torture. One of my best pals (who constantly "hears" me whine about belly aches and bloat LOL!) suggested that I may be intolerant to certain foods, and gosh darnit, it looks like she is right. We've got it narrowed down to two things right now, and you know what? I don't miss either! I was eating this "junk" every day. Now wonder I couldn't get lean. I was always bloated and smooth looking. I'm so happy, and I am feeling so much better!

More details to come once I come to a finite conclusion as to what the main culprit is.

Have a wonderful weekend guys! Sorry I have been a bad Blogger buddy. I've been a little preoccupied and stressed. I have something big in the works. I'll share next week once it is concrete. :)

129.6 - Tasty Tuesday - Black Bean & Corn Enchiladas

Hi guys!! I wanted to share with you one of my favorite recipes from Cooking Light!

Black Bean & Corn Enchiladas

Yield

8 servings (serving size: 1 enchilada)

Ingredients

  • 1 teaspoon canola oil
  • 2 cups diced zucchini
  • 1 (10-ounce) package frozen whole-kernel corn
  • 1 (15-ounce) can black beans, rinsed and drained
  • 3 cups Enchilada Sauce, divided
  • Cooking spray
  • 8 (8-inch) whole wheat tortillas
  • 2 cups (8 ounces) shredded reduced-fat cheddar cheese, divided

Preparation

Preheat oven to 350°.

Heat oil in a large nonstick skillet over medium-high heat. Add 2 cups zucchini and corn; sauté for 5 minutes or until vegetables are tender. Remove from heat, and stir in beans.

Spread 1 cup Enchilada Sauce in the bottom of a 13 x 9-inch baking dish coated with cooking spray. Spoon about 1/2 cup zucchini mixture down center of 1 tortilla; sprinkle with 2 tablespoons cheese, and roll up. Place seam-side down in baking dish. Repeat procedure with remaining tortillas, zucchini mixture, and 14 tablespoons cheese. Spread remaining 2 cups sauce evenly over enchiladas.

Cover with foil; bake at 350° for 30 minutes. Uncover; top with remaining 1 cup cheese. Bake, uncovered, for 10 minutes or until cheese melts.

However, I must admit, I do not follow the recipe exactly. I build my enchiladas lasagna-style. This really cuts down on prep time! I've tested this recipe with whole wheat tortillas, corn tortillas, and home made flour tortillas -- the flour ones were hands down the best!

On to other things...

Notice the scale increase? My stomach has been a wreck the past 24 hours. :( I'm going to start elimating things from my diet to see what the culprit is. I was in a lot of pain yesterday, and today I feel a lot better, but far from good. It hurt so bad yesterday that I actually hurled! :-O Gotta get to the bottom of that! I wasn't even nauseous... just hurting.

Also, coach wants me down to 125 by September 1st. Yowzas. 128 is a very sticky weight for me, so I'm toying with the idea of a rewards system. Look for those to pop up in the side bar soon! I have many things that I "need" (*ahem* want), and this will be just the incentive I need to get them for myself. I will keep them all fairly cheap ($20 and under)... but I want to make the 125 weight a good one. Any ideas?

I hope everyone's week is off to a great start.

128.6 – Menu Planning Monday and More

Heya folks!! Shooo, this weekend was a busy one. I spent so much time organizing. FUN STUFF! I really do enjoy it, and boy oh boy did it wear me out.

First things first… Menu Planning Monday!

Monday: Chicken, broccoli, baked potato (me), fried mashed potato patties (DH) using leftover mashed potatoes and Italian bread crumbs… this is an experiment. LOL!

Tuesday: Crab Muffins (leftover from last week… I made ½ the recipe as crab cakes and half as muffins), salad

Wednesday: Sloppy Joes (on a whole grain English muffin for me, DH gets his beloved buns), green beans, baked beans (DH)

Thursday: Fish of the day (Mahi Mahi), baked potato, salad

Friday: Chicken, pasta salad (I may have another carb source), broccoli

Saturday: Pizza Night!! Homemade, of course. Choose your own toppings! J

Sunday: Taco night, using shredded pork. Served buffet style! Fun! (This also helps me prep veggies for the week, since I like to keep a salad tray filled for convenience.)

Weekly Recap

Last week was smooth sailing!

It really couldn't have gone any better! I hit quite a few PRs in the gym, survived the ranging hunger from hormonal bliss (ha!), and even dipped down to the lowest weight of this prep yet… albeit by .2 pounds. Yes that is POINT two pounds… 2/10, 1/5, whatever. It's still a milestone, even though there is no reason to celebrate just yet.

** Run/walk 3x (as part of triathlon training) NEW!

Motivation

For all you Virgos out there, here's today's horoscope. I get these in my inbox daily from www.tarot.com. I get a kick out of reading them, sometimes they are silly, sometimes they are eerily on point, but today I found this one highly motivating! That's why I'm posting it here. J

Monday, Aug 3rd, 2009 -- Your key planet Mercury is now at home in your sign, raising the bar on perfection even higher than usual. The messenger planet remains in critical Virgo until August 25, setting you up for success if you can achieve excellence. But you also can be disappointed in yourself if you fall short of your unrealistic expectations. For now, trusting both your perceptions and your logic will steer you in the right direction. Weekend "fun"

It is amazing how bare the cupboards and refrigerator looks once everything is organized! Sheesh! And yes, I keep junk food and packaged products in the house. Don't hate. hehe

The sad part? We JUST bought groceries. Wow. Seems so empty! I apologize for the crappy pic quality. I get a little pic happy w/ my cell phone! LOL!

What else did I do?!

I tried to tackle this monster. YIKES!

My dad was kind enough to dump a lot of boxes on us several weeks ago before he moved. I guess we will be having a yard sale soon. I don't know what to do with it all. This was our first weekend home, (for me… hubby has been on summer vacation), and this has all just been sitting in our basement… and weighing heavily on my mind. I hate messes like this!

See that big ol' mirror propped up against the wall? That little cubby is where I usually practice my posing and walk... but it's blocked right now... another reason why I gotta get the basement cleaned up! :)

Does anyone have any tips? I hope to finish organizing and cleaning it up by the end of next weekend. It is a bit overwhelming. A lot of it is childhood stuff that I hate to throw away/sell/donate… a lot of it is old décor that was my mom's stuff before she passed… it's sentimental stuff like that that I really don't know what to do with… Ideas?

Alrighty, I have rambled enough. Let's make today a great one!

PS - I promise this blog looks pretty when I hit preview, but when I "Publish" it all gets jacked up! Very very frustrating.

133.0 - Menu Planning Monday - A little over TWELVE WEEKS OUT!

It's Monday, again. Seriously... time goes by way to quickly! Vacation was wonderful! As you can see, the weight bumped up quite a bit, although I am confident that a lot of it is water. FITNESS

While I didn't miss a workout last week, my diet certainly suffered with all of the travel. I'm looking forward to cleaning up my act. On the fitness front, I will start the Couch to 5k program from Cool Running tomorrow. I need to find my running groove again!... I am also thinking about posting up my workouts in my side bar... just an idea.

PREP IS HERE! and I am ready to BRING IT!

FLORIDA FUN

We could not have had a better time! The food, people, weather, EVERYTHING was fabulous! Man, did we stay active, too! There was no lounging around for me or DH. Most of the time we were walking, swimming, err... drinking... LOL! 12oz. curls counts as something, right? I'll close out this post with a couple pics. I'll be sure to post up more later in the week as well. I don't want to bog you down with hundreds of pics at once! LOL!

I tried to get an action shot of him jumping. Action shot: FAIL
